There was this moment during Miki and Fletcher’s session at Cox Arboretum where we looked at each other and just whispered, “They really love each other.” From the second they stepped in front of our cameras, we could feel the joy between them. The kind of joy that’s rooted in something deep and steady. The kind that overflows in every little smile, every glance, every story.
They met their sophomore year at Cedarville University—during a spontaneous late-night cold plunge with both of their friend groups. And yes, we’re serious. A cold plunge. Into the campus lake. At 11 PM. Fletcher told us he watched Miki jump in without even hesitating, and you could just see in his face how impressed he still is by that moment. It was like watching him fall in love with her all over again as he told the story. She laughed and teased him as she told us it took him “a couple months” to finally ask her out—emphasizing the words with a playful smile.
They ended up at Bibibop on their first date (we love a good Bibibop story!!), and the rest is history. But what stood out to us the most wasn't the beginning of their love story—it was how beautifully grounded their relationship is in their love for Jesus. Fletcher told us about the time he saw Miki wearing a ring that said, “Every tribe, tongue, and nation,” and how it stopped him in his tracks. The words come from Revelation 7:9—a glimpse of heaven where every nation, tribe, people, and language are standing before the throne and before the Lamb. When he found out she was studying biology and dreamed of using medicine to help people in need around the world and show them the love of God, he knew then: she was the one. Her passion to minister to all people so they can know the good news and salvation Jesus offers was so clear—and so beautiful.
Cue us trying not to tear up behind the camera.
It’s always such a gift when couples open up during sessions and share their hearts with us. These two? Their hearts are all in. They’re thoughtful, adventurous, grounded, joyful.
They talked about their trip to Kelleys Island—just walking and exploring together—and it hit home for us in the sweetest way. Kelleys is this quaint little island off the coast of Marblehead, Ohio, filled with cozy restaurants, charming shops, and that nostalgic, small-town feel where everyone rides around on bikes or golf carts and time seems to slow down. We’ve always loved that whole area—Marblehead and the nearby islands are some of our favorite places. We’ve made some of the sweetest memories there, just the two of us and with our family—so hearing them talk about it felt like the most heartwarming little overlap in our stories.
Also, they love decaf McDonald’s coffee. Like... really love it. The way they talked about it had us both laughing and seriously considering a drive-thru run afterward.
Miki graduates this May and Fletcher will graduate next year, which brought back so many memories for us because we actually got married while Julia was still in school. We loved being newly married in that season—coming home to each other and our puppies, soaking up every little moment (and many Domino’s Pizza nights—honestly, we still love Domino’s a little too much). It was such a sweet, fun, and meaningful way to begin our life together, and we know Miki and Fletcher will thrive in it too—just like they did during their engagement session!
